Salvage Yard Wash Bay
Through a referral, I received a call from a client who owned a high-end auto salvage facility and wanted to build a three-bay wash system in his recent expansion. He needed one bay with heavy degreasing capability for engines, transmissions, and drive train components and two bays with light degreasing and mild transpo wash capabilities for painted and anodized parts. After a site survey to his rural location, we decided to use two Landa Natural Gas Pressure Washers instead of one so he wouldn't have any downtime if any maintenance needed to be done. A 10gpm @ 3000psi unit to run two bays and a 5gpm @ 3000psi unit to run the single bay. We outfitted these with an auto start/stop feature which allows the user to turn the units on in the morning and when the trigger is pulled in the wash bay it calls for pressure and the unit turns on. When the trigger is released, the unit runs for 15 seconds and goes back into standby mode, eliminating the need for the end user to walk back and forth to the control panel to reactivate the units. We chose hot water because for every 13 degrees above 120 degrees water molecules double in cleaning efficiency and with the Landa Natural Gas units we knew we could achieve 5 times the cleaning energy which would make cleaning the grease and grime much more feasible. We used steel piping to run from the equipment room to the bays to protect the units from the wash process environment and installed wall-mounted booms to allow for quick egress and ingress of the parts being brought in and out with lift equipment that utilize overhead cranes. For chemical dispensing, we put in Hydominder chemical application systems to dilute the concentrate. These systems dispense the diluted chemical using air-operated flojet pumps to deliver the chemical through poly tubing to wall-mounted flex coil applicators for each chemical. This allows the user the ability to quickly, easily, and safely dispense the right amount of chemical onto the substrate being washed without hand mixing or pump sprayers. This keeps the environment free from extra stuff lying around causing trip hazards.
To be environmentally conscious of water usage and discharge we are reclaiming and reusing the water with a Water Maze closed-loop evaporator setup. This allows us to induct a percent of fresh water into the system to keep the gray water from occluding safety sensors and control mechanisms. In any cleaning process, we strive for cleaner-faster-greener technology that promotes safety and efficiency. Call 800.467.3270 or visit www.cougarchemical.com for your free cleaning survey.
