Diesel Pressure Washer for Homeless Camp Clean-Up

Kadyn works for a company that works with the city to alleviate the homeless problem.  The homeless are offered a room in the new shelters.  As the homeless are relocated, the homeless camps are dismantled and cleaned up.  Kayden needed a solution for cleaning up the area after all the trash and debris had been removed.  State environmental laws required the use of a diesel-powered pressure washer.  We needed to run 2 operators, one on a surface cleaner and the other on a wand.  For this demanding application, we needed power and dependability.

Kadyn sourced a flatbed truck, so we went to work designing a custom cleaning system.  Economics dictated that we build the system at his location because the flight and freight were less expensive than shipping the truck 2 ways.  We started the build on paper, making a scale drawing.  The next step was to 'build' the system in the shop on a taped template of the truck bed.  Every nut, bolt, and fitting was anticipated and packed in a box.  The pressure washer was built to order and shipped straight to the location.

For this application, we required a minimum of a 500-gallon freshwater tank.  We installed a PVC fill pipe that would allow for rapid filling from a hydrant.  To help prolong the work time, we also installed a garden hose reel plumbed to a float in the tank.  In areas with water access, the garden hose reel would dramatically extend the work time.

For the pressure washer, we went with the big boy, Landa's SLX, powered by a Kubota Diesel engine that puts out 10 gallons per minute.  We split the flow between two Hannay reels, one for the wand, the other for the surface cleaner.

It was great to be a part of a great project where the homeless are getting the shelter they need and watching a city reclaim its beauty.
